The lightness and versatility of the Klimapool Floating technology is a key factor that allowed the installation – on the 15th floor of a residential building in Brescia – of a swimming pool with a transparent infinity edge… and a breathtaking view.
We are on the 15th floor of a building in the center of Brescia. A panoramic penthouse that offers a full view of the main landmarks of the ‘Lioness of Italy’, among which the green dome of the Duomo Nuovo and the Castle perched on the Cidneo Hill stand out. It was precisely on this privileged vantage point that the client expressed his desire to build a swimming pool, an operation that was anything but simple, and which required a series of interventions and precautions for the pool to be installed safely.
As the roof slab could not guarantee the required load-bearing capacity to support the weight of the pool and its components, Preformati Italia, together with a team of engineers, came up with the idea of constructing a steel platform raised from the slab and resting solely on two lateral pillars.
Above this platform, the pool was positioned, created by designer Diana Bugatti, and made with an independent and lightweight Klimapool structure capable of minimizing weight, designed by Preformati Italia, who specifically offer solutions suitable for terraces, panoramic spaces and environments with limited bearing capacity.
Klimapool Floating, in detail, is a patented construction system consisting of a self-supporting, floating structure with a base and walls made of material with a high insulation coefficient and a load-bearing skeleton made of stainless steel. Totally devoid of any anchorage whatsoever, it simply requires a flat base to act as a simple support for the pool, represented in this case by the raised platform.
Thanks to the absence of any anchorages, the integrity of the subfloor is guaranteed, as well as any pre-existing waterproofing, peculiar to terraces, for example. Additionally, the floor could not guarantee that it would support the compensation tank, so, it too was custom-designed in steel so that it rested on the two side girders of the platform.
The swimming pool was built in one piece inside the Preformati Italia production plant, and then transported and placed on the 15th floor of the building with the aid of a crane. The access staircase into the pool was also built using Klimapool technology, mirroring the one inside, thus ensuring that the overall weight of the installation was further contained. The work continued with the installation of a transparent acrylic wall, 70 millimeters thick and in different lengths on all four sides of the pool. From this, the water elegantly overflows into the collection channel below, after a 1-meter overhang.
The porcelain stoneware cladding, uniformly applied both inside and outside the pool, offers a sense of continuity between spaces, amplifying them, and at the same time lending a crystal-clear tone to the water thanks to its light color. The geometric profile of the pool and the play of symmetries of the two stairways are emphasized by the lighting system composed of RGB LED strips, installed on the floor along the entire inside perimeter of the acrylic wall and below the steps, both inside and outside.
Turning to the more technical aspects, the management system was integrated into the home automation process for more convenient, simple, and immediate control by the owner.
During the construction phase, the client also specifically requested to be able to heat the water during the colder months and cool it as needed during the hot season. To meet this requirement efficiently, a full inverter heat pump was installed, thanks to which the owner can adjust the temperature in the pool depending on the time of year he is using it.
In this regard, Klimapool technology is a valuable ally in containing costs and reducing heat consumption; this patented material has a high insulation coefficient and appreciable energy efficiency, representing a key aspect for the system’s energy saving capabilities.
Klimapool technology can also be found in the technical compartment, located below the external stairs, which is self-supporting and walkable thanks to a special internal frame. Klimapool technology, therefore, lends itself perfectly to a variety of uses, also thanks to its ability to combine seamlessly with any other type of material, such as acrylic or steel, with no limits to its customization options, allowing you to choose unique, exclusive and top-quality finishes and interior furnishings, all accompanied by a ten-year guarantee.
